August 8, 2007: NLT at the Picnic Pops, Old Westbury Gardens
The Nassau Land Trust held its annual Picnic Pops event at Old Westbury Gardens on Wednesday, August 8.
Guests, Board members, and staff began the evening by gathering on the lovely Boegner Estate for a delicious buffet dinner. Tim Caufield, Vice President of Conservation and Stewardship at the Peconic Land Trust, then gave a presentation on tools that both conserve land and provide estate, income, and property tax benefits. The range of benefits available puts land conservation within the reach of property owners of almost any income level.
Nassau Land Trust Chairman Lloyd Zuckerberg emphasized the importance of incentives in such areas as estate tax to protecting the qualities we treasure in our community. "Nowadays, when someone inherits a piece of land that's been in their family for generations, they can't afford to pay the taxes and have to sell the land. That's how we've lost a lot of important properties here in Nassau County." Financial incentives can make conserving family land a reality.
After a lively question and answer session, guests joined the audience at the main concert stage to be serenaded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
